In this issue I want to suggest a "Powerful Success
Technique"
that the really wise and wealthy business owners employ.
It is to get you thinking outside your
"industry" box and
quickly leverage your profitability.
I want you to do something that may be a bit surprising
but
quite revealing.
Get a list of at least ten businesses - or
practices in the same basic field you're in but outside
your
direct marketing area.
Then get a list of ten businesses or practices that are
very
similar, but not directly competitive to what you do.
These
lists are easy to get. Call up your local or national trade
association.
Or go to a business library, or just ask a couple of your
vendors or suppliers to put you in touch with customers
of
theirs who wouldn't be considered your direct
competitors.
Once you get the names and phone numbers of these people,
call
them up.
Identify yourself and your business or profession.
Tell them you are not a direct competitor nor will you
ever be.
Ask them if the two of you can talk for 15 minutes (or
schedule
a future telephone or live appointment to do it) and
share what
is working and what success practices each one is
using. If you
are sincere and forthright in conduct and intent when you
do
this, almost everyone you approach will say
"yes."
When you talk to them here's what to do: First, take the
initiative of sharing with them what you think your most
effective success practices and business or practice
building
methods have been.
Then ask them to share theirs with you. I've done this
for many
clients and in a week of conversations, dozens of
breakthrough
ideas get uncovered.
Ask good questions of the people you talk with. For
example:
* What's your average transaction value?
* Have you found better ways to improve it?
* How many times do customers or clients buy from you?
* What system or process do you use to get them buying
more,
or coming back
more often?
Finally, ask them the one biggest lesson they've learned
about
selling or marketing their product or service - and what
they
think their biggest selling advantage over their
competition
might be.
This shared brain-picking is pure gold. In some industries,
business owners pay up to $50,000 each to get together
once a
month in groups of fifty and do this formally. Now you can use
this technique and pay nothing more than a little
effort.
But if you do, it could add untold new profits into your
pocket
in the next few years!

E-commerce will grow "whether the economic recovery

recently by Forrester Research.
Forrester, which surveyed approximately 9,000 online
shoppers
for the study, said that e-commerce will continue to

by the weak economy.
Forrester predicts online retail spending will top $74

in 2002 compared to an expected $51 billion in 2001.
